Dean Monti started writing at age two, but nothing really legible until age five. Since then, he has worked creatively in a variety of mediums including short stories, plays, novels, journalism, screenwriting, and some hastily drawn cartoons.
His critically-acclaimed comic novel, THE SWEEP OF THE SECOND HAND, was first published by Academy Chicago Publishers and reprinted in paperback by Penguin. His latest novel, THE MONOSEXUAL, will be published July, 2024. He is also the author of several one-act plays and has had his works premiered in Chicago. He was also a finalist in a national playwriting competition in Virginia. He taught creative writing and novel writing classes at Columbia College in Chicago and College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, IL. He received his MFA in Creative Writing at Queens University of Charlotte. He is currently working on new novels and recently adapted one of his works as a screenplay. Throughout it all, he has held a full-time job as an editor and journalist for more than 20 years. He lives in a suburb of Chicago with his wife Julie and two needy but loveable cats.
